PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY OF OKLAHOMA Pediatric Cardiology of Oklahoma has been in existence since 1990. Our mission is to provide a professional medical service of the highest degree in the detection and treatment of congenital heart defects and acquired heart disease in a caring and compassionate environment. EARLY DETECTION OF CARDIAC DEFECTS Echocardiography is the most effective tool to accomplish this purpose. There are many indications to order an echocardiogram. One of the services we offer is a fast–track echocardiogram. There are many instances when an echocardiogram will answer a specific question. An example of this is a patient in whom cardiomegaly is seen on a chest x–ray. The fast–track echocardiogram allows the primary care provider to call and schedule the test which can usually be performed within 24 – 48 hours. Not only does this allow for a quick diagnosis, but it can often alleviate the anxiety associated with waiting for a formal evaluation by a cardiologist. If something is dramatically wrong, the patient is then worked into the clinic that day prior to leaving. If a defect is seen but it does not require immediate evaluation, recommendations for follow–up are given on the official results. | |||
