PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY OF OKLAHOMA FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHERE IS PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY OF OKLAHOMA LOCATED?
We are at Suite 2402 in the Heart Hospital building at St. Francis Hospital at 6151 South Yale Avenue.  We are located on the second floor of the Heart Hospital. Park in the lot across the way and take the elevator on the left of the lobby to the 2nd floor, Suite 2402.
WHAT ARE YOUR OFFICE HOURS?
We are open from 8 am till 5 pm 5 days a week. And for your convenience we are open during the lunch hour.
WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR A SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT?
We ask that all new patients arrive 30 minutes prior to scheduled apponitment time. This allows time for all pertinent visit documentation to be completed prior to the appointment.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO MY SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT?
You should bring your insurance card, a picture ID, and if so instructed, please also bring any chest x-rays (you may bring films or discs.)
IF I'M A FIRST TIME PATIENT WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO?
Please save time on your first appointment by registering on this site at the Patient Portal.
WHAT IF I HAVE NO INSURANCE?
Please contact our business office prior to your appointment to work out a payment plan.  Their phone number is 918-481-4600.
IF I HAVE A LAB ECHOCARDIOGRAM, DO I GET RESULTS SAME DAY?
No. Results go back to your PCP, or primary care physician, within 48 hours. You should contact your PCP for the results.
WILL THE ECHOCARDIOGRAM BE PAINFUL?
No. There are no needles involved. We are a needle-less office. There is no pain here.
HOW LONG DO THE TESTS YOU ADMINISTER TAKE?
A Lab echocardiogram takes between 30 and 45 minutes. A Lab EKG takes 10–15 mins. A Lab Holter/30 day event takes 20–30 minutes for enrollment and instruction.
WHAT IF I REQUIRE A FULL WORKUP?
A full workup is an echocardiogram, EKG and an office visit, and takes between 1 1/2 and 2 hours.  You will receive all the results on the same day.  We are patient and family oriented. We are the only pediatric cardilogy center in Oklahoma that can provide this timely turnaround on results within the same day, and thus no second visit for results is ever necessary.
WHAT IF SOMETHING SHOWS UP ON A TEST?
We will not let you leave the office – you will be seen then and there.  If the lab results indicate a condition that warrants immediate attention or follow up we will accommodate with a provider consultation within the same day's visit.
IF MY BABY IS TIRED SHOULD I LET HER SLEEP?
We perform the exam in a darkened, quiet room. Babies/children are much easier to scan while asleep, there is less movement and a slower heart rate. If the appointment is near naptime, try to keep them awake.
IF MY BABY IS HUNGRY SHOULD I FEED HER?
Bring a bottle. Babies are encouraged to drink during the exam. If it is near a Feeding time, hold off until we start the exam. This not only keeps them ‘busy”, it also relaxes them. If your baby breast-feeds, arrive a little early to feed them prior to the exam. If your child uses a pacifier, be sure to bring it. For a toddler, a snack and “sippy cup” work well.
SHOULD I BRING TOYS?
Bring a favorite toy, blanket and book. Familiar items to touch, feel and listen to are very comforting to a child. We have TV/Cable and movies. If your child has a favorite DVD, bring it.
SHOULD I TALK TO MY OLDER CHILD ABOUT THE TEST?
By all means, reduce anxiety; explain the exam. This is not a test to fear. There are no “shots”, only very light transducer pressure on their chest. We have found, with the proper preparation most children do very well and actually enjoy the experience.
